Washington, NC 2007
Washington, NC is one of the closest towns to Goose Creek and Lake Mattamuskeet. So it was an obvious place to go for dinner during our February 2007 trip to see tundra swans and other birds. We found the Down On Mainstreet Restaurant and it was so good we went back a second night.
The waterfront at Washington is interesting. There were several sailboats and powerboats moored there when we visited. The sunset with the boats made for some interesting photos.
We also saw a few birds in the water. Not many, but this one was worth stopping for.
In previous visits to this part of NC we had eaten at the Roanoke Oyster Bar in Plymouth, NC. The steamed shrimp were great. Unfortunately, on this trip when we stopped in Plymouth, we found that the oyster bar was closed. Perhaps it'll be open next time we stop. We really hope that it has not gone out of business.
