Paddling Goose Creek NC 2007
Goose Creek State Park
We took Nessie to paddle Goose Creek State Park in late February 2007. We had scouted Goose Creek in 2006 as part of a trip to Lake Mattamuskeet. We choose February because we wanted to visit Lake Mattamuskeet earlier than we did in 2006. We stayed at in a cabin at Tranter's Creek Resort and Campground. The campground is close to Washington, NC and Goose Creek. The cabin was small, room for bed and a chair or two, but really quite nice. We enjoyed our stay.
We scouted Goose Creek during a previous visit to Lake Mattamuskeet and decided we would paddle it on our next visit to the lake. We could not paddle the lake because it is closed to paddling until March.
We found a few birds at Goose Creek. No big birds such as tundra swans. Did see some ducks. We were not really looking for birds, just a nice paddle on a quiet creek. And that's what we found.

The trees were still bare, although there were signs that they were getting ready to bud out. This was a good paddle to get the winter kinks worked out. Little or no current to fight, nice warm day, and no wind.
