Acadia National Park
Rocky Coast Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is the oldest park east of the Mississippi. It was a gift to the nation by a group of wealthy individuals who wanted to preserve the unique environment of Mount Desert Island. It's a wonderful gift.

Most of Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island. Mount Desert Island was named by a Frenchman, Samuel Champlain the first European to land on the Island.
A second, smaller, part is located on the Schoodic Peninsula on the mainland.

Seal Cove Pond
During our few days day we paddled two of the many ponds in the park, visited the Schoodic Peninsula, and explored what we could of the rest of the park by car and short walks. We didn't have enough time to hike the many trails and paths. We had planned more paddling, but the weather didn't cooperate--too windy. So we left lots to do for our next visit.
