Mammoth Hot Springs is the site of Yellowstone Parks Headquarters. The museum there tells the history of the park and is quite interesting. Mammoth is also home to a large herd of elk that pretty much has the run of the place. They are everywhere. When we were there in June 1999, the oldy elk around were cow elk and many of them were getting ready to have babies.

Mammoth Hot Springs is the main attraction at Mammoth. The hot spring is huge and the mammoth name is well justified. The deposits from the hot springs and the range of colors is amazing. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the park.

There are numerous remnants of old spring throughout the Mammoth area. Some are small and others are large.
