Buffalo Bill Historical Center
When we arrived at our motel in Cody, we noticed that the motel was next to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Since we had some time to kill before dinner, we decided to visit the center. We expected the usually tourist thing--a few pictures and artifacts about Buffalo Bill and nothing more. Boy were we wrong. The center is five world class museums under one roof. The five museums are:
- the Cody Firearms Museum
- Whitney Gallery of Western Art
- Plains Indians Museum
- The Buffalo Bill Museum
- The Draper Museum of Natural History which we did not have time to visit
The Plains Indians Museum is at least as good as and maybe better than the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. A person could spend most of a day in it.
We stayed until the center closed and planned to return the next morning before we headed for West Yellowstone. Wow what a place The following just scratches the surface of what is in the center. Clearly we needed at least a full day or two to appreciate what was there.
