Our mid-September 2019 visit to Lassen Volcanic National Park as shorter than we planned. Our first day was planned as a drive from Crater Lake National Park to Lassen with stops for hikes and picture taking. The second day we planed to drive across the park in the opposite direction headed to Redwoods National Park. Two things were wrong with our plan. First the weather on the first day was rain, snow, and fog (same as we experienced on our stay at Crater Lake. Second, we misjudged the distance and time required for the two drive. The bottom line was that the first day was a drive where we couldn't see much except the road in front of us and wonder what the mountains we assumed were around us looked like. The sulfur works was right along the road and visible through the fog so we stopped and walked to it. But none of the other sites mentioned in the film at the visitor center were visible through the fog.

The snow stopped and the sun came out the second day as we stated our drive back across the park. A beautiful day.

Second day in Lassen National Park

Everything was covered with snow and was beautiful. We decided that we would have to come back someday and spend more time exploring. The only bad part of the second day was that the temperature was about 30F and the wind was 20+ miles per hour. Really unpleasant and not conducive to much hiking. We did explore a few things but missed a lot. We started to hike to Bumpus Hell, for example, put decided that the wind was too cold and strong.
